Complete VGC’s Survey For a Chance to Win $1500!!!!

What would you do with $1500…?

Well… here’s what you COULD do:

  • Buy 1500 Tim Hortons donuts.
  • Snowboard + season’s pass to Cypress, Grouse or Seymour mountain.
  • Visit the Vancouver Aquarium with 50 friends.
  • Surf the North Shore in Hawaii!
  • Take your mother out to a nice seafood dinner!
  • SHOPPING SPREE! Luis Vuitton ZOMG!!!!! :0
  • Invest in a mobility scooter for when you’re 70.
  • Buy a new camera and take a picture beside a Ferrari.

Personally I’d take the money and disappear into the Costa Rican rainforest for several months to train to become the next Bear Grylls (of “Man vs Wild” glory).

Turns out insects are actually very nutritious

Luckily for my concerned mother this contest is only open to VGC Students! VGC has created this survey to get our students’ valuable opinions so that we can serve you better. All the feedback from this survey is going to be totally anonymous and analyzed by an outside company. We encourage you to be as honest so that we can help structure our efforts to provide the best service possible here at VGC Language School.

Happy Holidays from VGC Language School

Merry Christmas and Happy New Years from VGC Language School!

Christmas is an exciting time of year in Canada! At VGC we have been fortunate enough to spend a wonderful holiday season with our international students from around the world. For many of our international students, Christmas 2011 was the first time that they were able to experience western Christmas traditions. We were glad to be able to introduce this special time of year to our students. We look forward to next year!

All in all we had a great Christmas here at VGC. Kath (the Green Lady) put on a tremendous Christmas gift exchange. Echoes of cheering, triumphant laughter and sallow sobs of disappointment rang through the halls here at VGC, a good time was had by all.

Best of wishes to all for 2012!

Summertime Activities @ VGC

Wondering what VGC students do when they’re not studying at the best language school in Vancouver?

Ola... como estas? ;)

They have fun!

VGC Students in the Rockies

Studying a new language in a foreign country is an exciting and memorable experience. At VGC we know that there is more to learning English in Vancouver than simply sitting in a classroom! A truly successful experience studying abroad is one that immerses the student in the culture and allows them to discover a country, culture—and hopefully—themselves.

At VGC we encourage our students to go out and explore Vancouver. We run a variety of daily activities led by our dedicated Activity Coordinator to help students make the most of their time while they study English in Vancouver. We want our students to discover the world of English beyond the walls of the classroom. But most of all…

…we want them to have fun!

Check out a few of the things we have been up to in the summertime at VGC:

Level Test is Online

Registration just got easier!

The staff here at VGC have been busy re-tooling VGC’s website lately. To help make students’ planning and registration easier, VGC has made our comprehensive level test available online.

Curious about your English language level? Test your English language ability and check which of VGC’s 15 levels you would fall into… check out VGC’s online level test.

This tool will be useful for students who are considering studying English in Vancouver as well as students who are planning to attend VGC. For students thinking about studying in Canada, the level test should give a good idea of which level students would enter at, making it easier to determine how much time a student should spend at VGC to accomplish their learning goals.

Oh! Canada! Canada Day at VGC

Canada Day was kicked off in style this year at VGC’s downtown Vancouver campus. We pulled out all the stops to ensure that our international students experienced a Canada Day to remember while they study English in Vancouver.

The Infamous "Vegetable" Cake

Starting at lunchtime, VGC’s student lounge was quickly filled with students hungry for Canada Day snacks and ready to play a few games. The festivities kicked off with a vocabulary-building game of “Bingo,” led by VGC’s activities coordinator. Students listened carefully for their words, all eager to take the grand prize– a Canadian prize pack for the top 3 players.

Bingo time!

Congratulations to the winner — Chris from Daejon, Korea!

There can only be one! Chris from Daejon, Korea is the Bingo king!

Next up came VGC’s very own (ad-hoc) house band to play a bit of music for everybody. Taka and Jack were brave enough to play and sing a few songs together. Check out the video above!

Taka and Jack laid down some tunes for everybody's enjoyment.

A special thank you to the both of them… great tune! Inspired by her students, one of VGC’s teachers came up to sing and play guitar.

A teacher of many talents!

In the end, fun was had by all. It was even concluded that even though the cake was made of carrots, it tasted nothing like vegetables at all!

VGC Partners with the University of Regina

Summer is moving along steadily here at VGC Language School. Students are enjoying the long days of sunshine and are taking advantage of all the great summertime activities on offer in Vancouver. VGC’s staff are hard at work as well. In addition to launching a new website, we have been working hard to develop partnerships with universities in Canada in order to provide the best opportunities for our students.

We are extremely proud to announce that we have developed a partnership with the University of Regina — home to the best petroleum engineering program in North America!

The University of Regina has officially recognized the quality of VGC’s English programs. Students who successfully graduate from VGC’s University Pathway Program are given conditional acceptance to the University of Regina with no further proof of English. That is, no IELTS or TOEFL score is necessary for entrance for VGC graduates– they can transfer directly into the U of Regina!

With its blend of international students, outstanding program choices and dedicated teachers and staff, the University of Regina is a fantastic place to pursue your higher education. Check out the University of Regina online to learn more about their programs.

Japan’s Nadeshiko Win the World Cup!

VGC Language School would like to offer our heartfelt congratulations to the women of Japan’s World Cup soccer team on their World Cup gold victory.

Winners of the 2011 FIFA Women's World Cup -- Japan's "Nadeshiko"

This great victory is a testament to the tenacity and perseverance of the Japanese people who have triumphed in spite of the heart-wrenching tragedies suffered by the nation as a result of March’s earthquake and tsunami. We offer our congratulations and sincerely hope this achievement will help to ease the burden of suffering shouldered by the people of Japan in these past months.

VGC Language School is honoured to join Japan in celebration of this monumental achievement—we have arranged a World Cup party for our Japanese and international students here at VGC to celebrate this victory and Japan itself.

Congratulations to the Nadeshiko! It is our hope that their triumph will bring optimism and joy to the people of Japan.
